BIG BOY BED

This week we made the big leap to a big boy bed for Nate. Actually, it wasn't that dramatic. We just took the crib rail off his transitional crib. ha! He was so excited...climbed in it and proudly says "Big boy bed!!" He has also done amazingly well so far...better than I expected. He stays under his covers and in his bed all night. Nate has always been a restless sleeper. He usually ends up at the opposite end of his crib and on top of his blanket. But ever since the transition, he stays put despite his restless sleep on the trundle at the g.parents house. I think he was just so glad to be back in his own bed, in his own room. Us too!

Now, normally I am not a fan of license character bedding but we thought this would help with the transition since Nate loves Thomas the Train so much. My sis-in-law got the bedding for him and he always says "Train!" every time he climbs into bed. I am re-decorating his room to a more "big boy" room so I packed up all the baby bedding and whisked it off to the consignment shop this afternoon. I was sad to see it go but excited to have another decorating project! His new room will be a Vintage Travel room. Nate loves planes, trains, cars, bikes...anything with wheels. G.ma Sullivan got him a vintage airplane to hang from the ceiling and my mom made him an African safari quilt that will go perfectly in his room.

I've had way too much fun shopping and scouring for vintage travel ideas. I found a Vintage Travel Poster calendar and I'm going to cut out the pages, mount them on foam board and hang them in the room. Then I found these little 6"x6" pillows in ethnic patterns and colors at CostPlus World Imports for only $1.98 each! Also found a global map and IndoChine sign that are awesome. At Marshalls I found a wall hook rack that you can put photos in so I think I'll print some of our China photos to put in it. We also have a HUGE collection of postcards over the years of the different places we've been and I need to figure out a way to mount and hang those.

Anyone have any other decorating ideas??? I'll post photos of the stuff I found soon.

What a cute picture. I remember when my little boy went from crib to big boy bed....so long ago it seems. He's now so big he needed a queen.

WOW, you are brave to put your little man in a big boy bed. If I tried that with Lily she would be running around the house. She is such a hot pot.
Can you believe that our kiddos are turning 2. Man, does time fly.
